CocaBang Jeans: Jeans for Crossfitters

Like most women who have been doing the lifting weights thing for a while, my body has been continuously transforming. I have been purging my closet seasonally, sadly packing up all of my XS cardigans that I have She-Hulked my way out of, and sending all of my jeans and work pants that no longer fit over my thighs and butt to my skinny-mini sister. I have come to terms with never being able to fit in a size 2 anymore, nor an extra-small in anything, and I am completely okay with that! I prefer looking strong over looking too skinny.

Not a lot of real relevance to this post, but who doesn’t like to do squats when you’re on your way to the bar?

However, in ridding my closet of all of the clothes that no longer fit me, I have had a hard time replacing everything, and have been investing all of my clothing budget into workout clothes, because really, that’s where the priority is at! 😉

But when offered an opportunity to get a sneak peek at CocaBang‘s pre-production line of blue jeans made specifically with athletic women’s bodies in mind, how could I say no? Jeans for Crossfitters? Sold! The jeans are designed to accentuate a slimmer waist, while providing plenty room for our fabulous glutes and thighs!

I was watching a recent episode of What Not to Wear and Stacey and Clinton were talking about their “rules”, and mentioned the primary goal of blue jeans is to make one’s butt look good. I agree!

I put these jeans on and they are so comfortable! The pair I received was a little long, but most of the time when I do choose to wear skinny jeans, I pair them with boots, so that isn’t an issue at all! They do carry inseams from 30″-36″ so it would not have been an issue to exchange these, but I did not want to give the pair up! 😉

What I love most about these jeans is that there is no gap at the waist or the back. While I have been loving my American Eagle super stretch jeans for fit and comfort, if I bend over or even when I am sitting down, anyone behind me gets a nice clear view of what I’m wearing underneath! With these, I can bend and twist and do handstands and the skivvies are left unseen! 😉

Pros:

  • 100% American made. I do not think I have any jeans in my wardrobe that can put that on the label!
  • Comfort. These are so soft and stretchy! They have a jegging-like feel, but they are also easy to slip on and take off! None of that getting stuck having to wiggle worm your way into a pair of pants.
  • Fit: No waist-gapping and hugs the curves in all the right places. I even have room to grow into these..

Cons:

  • Price. This is the only deterrent I have for these jeans, and it is completely a personal preference! I am a bargain shopper and a half, and most of my clothes not only come from the outlet mall, but usually from the clearance rack and with additional coupons.. I have never paid more than $25 for a pair of jeans, so there is a bit of sticker shock. However, being that they are niche market and 100% made in USA with top quality denim, hardware, and construction, the company is hardly making a profit breaking into the market.
  • Only available online so cannot try on before you buy. Even though they are only online, the return policy is excellent and they will exchange the pair if needed!

Despite coming with a retail price tag of $190, Cocabang is looking for backers to their Kickstarter Campaign and for supporting the launch, you can score your own pair of jeans like mine for just a $75 donation. The more you donate, the more goodies you can get!

Update 04/2014: Since writing this review, I can honestly say that I wear these jeans at least 3-4x a week. They have faded a little bit since I purchased them, but as with any jeans, proper care should be taken when washing. I have nothing but good things to say about these and rave about them to anyone who compliments me on them!

Also, I have worked out a deal with CocaBang to allow my readers to snag a discount of 25% all items using code “WTWL” at checkout!

I’ve been wanting to try these but I agree, the price tag is a little steep. Heck, I don’t even buy $75 jeans!

For the most part, Womens Levi Jeans fit my curvy/athletic body well, which are $40 a pair cuz I too can’t afford much more than that right now in my life. Love the dark wash you are wearing!

My favourite pair of jeans were a pair of Levi red labels, it was quite a few years ago but I remember they lasted for ages and fit amazingly! Since I’ve started weightlifting I haven’t found any jeans that are 100% comfortable, in most cases the waist is way too big or I just cannot get them past my thighs!

I don’t have a huge budget for clothes which is such a pain as I’ve got hardly anything to wear at the moment as I’m shrinking out of everything I have! I would love to get involved with CocaBang but looking at their website I’m not sure they cater for the UK… Will have to get in touch!

Yes, there should most certainly be a better, (but not too expensive) range for athletic bodies!

P.s. Love your squat photo! ☺

I think it does show that for the Kickstarter campaign they’ll ship internationally, but it’s $35 :\

I hate spending a lot of money on clothes, but in speaking to others who justify it, they say it’s worth spending extra to have a few quality pieces over a lot of not-so-flattering cheaper pieces. Makes sense I suppose!

I spend a decent amount on my jeans because cheap jeans dint fit me and don’t last. I backed the company and small eager to try them when my pair arrives.

I just found old navy’s “flirt fit” it’s made for bigger thighs and smaller waist. They fit amazing and I hate wearing jeans lately because my legs have grown! I’m 5’10 and wear a size 12 so I’m not small, but these jeans fit my thighs and booty, hugged high enough to not show undies but not too high that I had mom butt. AND they’re only $30! And old navy always has specials (I got them for $15!)

Jeans are tough, pretty much for the reasons you alluded to: no one designs jeans for athletes – or women with curves and strong bodies built on muscle. Same goes for pants. Its incredibly frustrating that not much of anything fits JUST RIGHT. Sounds like from the other commenters there are some brands that might work though!

I have this problem! My thighs (and booty) are just big, and since I became a runner last year, they’ve just grown. Shorts are especially difficult for me to find. I have one pair that’s a 13, just because I like how they fit everywhere other than the waste (and I wear an 8/9, typically!).

Jeans are not as bad, but I basically came to expect pants to gap, lol.

Yeah, these are great because you bend over, and the jeans stay where they’re supposed to! lol.

Oops.. sorry for the late reply!!

I love American Eagle stretch jeans!

What is your current favorite brand of jeans? My current favorite brand of jeans are American Eagle Boot Cut Long jeans.
Do you feel that more retailers need to cater to athletic body types? Yes! I find it almost impossible to find jeans that fit right, feel right and look right.
What is your biggest problem area that your clothes never seem to fit properly? My height, waist, thighs and butt. My jeans are always too big around the waist when they fit my thighs/ butt or they fit well around my waist but every step I risk ripping my pants and don’t get me started with the height issue….

Hey Morgan!! Lately I’ve been wearing Barbell brand! But also love my AE ones because they are super stretchy 😉
