Lady Lifter Spotlight: KT!

in Lady Lifter Spotlight

I know I probably say this about every lifting lady I spotlight that is older than me, but I think is even more inspiring to people push outside their comfort zone as they get older, and makes me realize how much more awesome I can be in 10+ years! 😉

This week’s spotlight is on Kim (KT), a wife and mother, who started her blog last September to celebrate her 43rd birthday. As someone who historically run her age in miles on her birthday (and I complain about birthday burpees!!), she took commemorating her 43rd birthday even further and has dedicated the past year to a new “43” each day. Talk about dedication! She has posted everyday since last September, launching with an attempt at running 43 miles, and continuing the year with activities (almost all with pictures and lots of videos!) ranging from KB swings, to burpees, to presses to squats! Be sure to check out her blog for daily workouts and inspiration!

What types physical activity do you enjoy?

Running, lifting weights, Insanity, boot camp, Turbo Fire, Combat (the list could go on!!)

How did you get started in weight lifting?

I started lifting when I was about 35 because I realized that running was no longer enough to keep me in the shape I wanted to be!

cropped-DSCN0076Favorite workout or lift?

Dead lifts (although I’m liking the clean & press more & more!)

Current lifting-related goal:

I want to try Crossfit (does that count?)

Piece of advice for new lifters or those reluctant to try:

Don’t be afraid to go heavy – you aren’t going to get bulky – just strong!!!

I’ve been an athlete since I started running in high school.  I competed in cross-country & track during both HS & college.  I feel like now, at 43, I’m in better shape than I was way back then – I’m running faster and I’m much stronger (thanks to weight lifting and cross training).  I hope to continue to improve my strength as I train for my first ultra race (50 miles).

How would you like to be the next in the spotlight? I love to spotlight ladies in all fitness levels; it does not matter if you are a brand new lifter or a seasoned veteran! Check out the past spotlights and contact me for details!
