PRO Compression Socks: Review AND Giveaway!! (contest closed)

by ~jenniferlynn on October 24, 2012

in Giveaways!, Product Reviews

I first heard about PRO Compression Socks from Nicole at Masters2Marathons, who had nothing but positive things to say about them. As I began to follow more running blogs and followed more fitness fanatics on Twitter, I found even more people who bragged about their PRO Compression Socks, and I wanted to know more! Marketed to endurance athletes and golfers, I wasn’t sure if their product would be useful in my fitness life, but all of the positive reviews sparked my interest.

I contacted PRO Compressionn to find out if someone like me could benefit from their product, a non-distance runner, weightlifter, cubicle rat. Their customer service reps were super fast to respond via Twitter and said that many people have used them for weightlifting, crossfitting, and even just casually wearing! I was extremely fortunate for Eric over at PRO Compression to send me a pair for me to form my own opinion of these highly talked about socks.

Just a few short days later, my socks arrived and I put them on right away. It was a Friday, and I had nothing else going on except some socializing, so I sported my socks that night. To the bar. 😉

Even though these socks intentionally fit super-tight and are a little bit of a challenge to put on, once they are on, they are super comfortable! I wore these for about 4 hours on that night with no issues at all!

For me, putting these to the ultimate test would be running in them. Now, since running is not my forte, I was hoping they would do something awesome for me on my 5k that I completed this past weekend, since I always have issues with my legs while running. I tried these on the night before my race, and since I found them super comfy, I hung out for a couple hours more in them.

I wasn’t completely sure the right way to wear these (before, during, after running), so I reached out to my fellow Sweat Pink Ambassadors, and the PRO Compression site, and found out that there really are no “rules” as to when to wear them – just do what works best for you!

So race day came, and I opted to rock my socks again during the race. I found them extremely comfortable to run in! They didn’t bother my feet at all, no chafing, no blistering. My shins and calves typically give me issues during my running, and these surprisingly prevented the horrible pains I usually feel! I won’t say they gave me superpowers or anything since still every other part of me aches today, but during the run, these were awesome, and I will definitely use them again (I mean, they were present when I hit a PR!).

Many ladies have told me that they used these post-run, so of course I had to try that as well. I wore these again after my 5k for the remainder of the day (so about 16 hours total, with a shower in between). They are really super comfy to wear long-term and my legs continued to feel pretty good even after my race and much sitting around. My legs didn’t get crampy or anything and I even forgot I was wearing the socks half the time.

My one and only complaint about these socks is that they really started to hurt my upper calves after about 10 hours. They weren’t chafing or anything, but the band around the top of the socks was really digging into my “behind-the-knee” (does that have a name?). I emailed my concern over to PRO Compression and they did say that since these are designed as comfort product, you can pretty much wear them long-term until they hurt. Many people choose to wear them daily, or after running, or even to bed, but I guess I wore them beyond the recommended time period for me!

PRO Compression socks are a bit pricey ($50 for the marathon socks, $45 for marathon sleeves, and $25 for two pair of training low-cut socks), but they are an investment piece and when properly cared for, will last for an extended period of time. There is a current promotion going on this month and you can get 40% off of all pink socks and sleeves this month using code SOM102!

If you aren’t quite sold on purchasing your own yet, you can also check out Nicole’s review over on her blog for a second opinion. And if you would rather try before you buy PRO Compression has given both of us an opportunity to let one of our faithful readers win their own pair! Enter below AND at Nicole’s site!!

I would KILL for a pair of these. I’ve heard nothing but great things and for the terrible shin splints I get, I’m hoping they would work wonders. The price is a bit steep for this single momma of 5 though… all money goes to my babies <3

I just got my compression socks a month ago for my birthday (best birthday present ever). The first time I wore them was running a half marathon. I liked it, thought they worked, but I was def sore the next day. This past weekend, I didn’t wear them in the half, but wore them for about 17 hours afterwards (post-shower until 4 am when I kicked ’em off in my sleep) and the next day I felt AMAZING. These things work wonders! 😀
