Happy, happy, “heavy lifting” lady day!

I know, you guys have been anxiously anticipating these weekly as I used to do back in the day, but… sometimes it just doesn’t turn out that way. But, alas, let’s try this again! I have at least three posts scheduled and lined up and ready to go! 😉

This week’s spotlight is on Leah of The Lionheart Project, a blog dedicated to helping women reach their full potential physically and intellectually. I love one of the quotes from her blog, that one of her goals in writing is that she hopes to, “..inspire you – to change, to stay the same, to be confident in your own path, and to forge ahead in establishing the life of your own design, guided in equal parts by meaning, compassion, joy, and growth.”

What types physical activity do you enjoy?

Powerlifting, strongman, rucking/hiking, adventure racing (rucking is extreme hiking or trekking; it involves carrying heavy weight in a backpack (ruck) and moving as quickly as possible).

How did you get started in weight lifting? How long have you been lifting?

I got interested to supplement my cardio, and have learned a lot about myself from strength sports. I’ve been lifting off-and-on for about two years.

Favorite workout or lift?

I love squats, but have a soft spot for high-mileage rucks with lots of weight (50+ lbs) in the pack.

Current lifting-related goal:

1000 lb total (bench, squat, deadlift)

Piece of advice for new lifters or those reluctant to try:

Listen to your body and learn to discern injury from soreness. As you progress, don’t be afraid of overtraining – that’s not a realistic concern for 99% of the training population. Everyone gets anxious when they start in the weightroom, but after a few weeks, it’ll be second-nature to walk in and get on with yo’ bad self.

Some of the greatest civilizations on earth have heralded women’s intellectual, physical, and emotional strength. Femininity isn’t synonymous with weakness, meekness, and superficiality. If you want to contact me, feel free to email me.

How would you like to be the next in the spotlight? I love to spotlight ladies in all fitness levels; it does not matter if you are a brand new lifter or a seasoned veteran! Check out the past spotlights and contact me for details if you or someone you know would like to be featured!
