20140711 Friday Finds

Holy dang, it’s July!

I have been busying myself with my middle sister’s wedding (crazy!), taking a little vacation, painting my living and dining room, lots and lots of Oly lifting, and prepping for an upcoming partner Crossfit competition, with a team name inspired by Girls Gone WOD!

On top of all that, this month I have been celebrating my 32nd birthday (by means of doing a half-naked photo shoot, being wooed with flowers, gallivanting with baby sis, eating amazing cake, inching closer to my birthday muscle-up goal (didn’t hit it, but it will get there!), and succumbing myself to a sensory deprivation tank, but more on that later!).

With all that has been going on and as a way to keep you all informed of things that are obviously important since I want to talk about them, I thought I would start a new little feature on the blog showcasing some things that I have run across during my week that may be of interest to you, from blog posts, products, and discounts/deals! Let me know what you think!

Friday

News/Blogs:

NPGL: I am becoming quite excited about the National Pro Grid League (fka National Pro Fitness League)! If you aren’t familiar with it, it is basically taking the concept of Crossfit (though not affiliated), combining elements of weightlifting, powerlifting, gymnastic, and high intensity interval training and turning it into a national sport. The draft was this week and as someone who historically has about zero interest in any sports, I am looking forward to keeping up with the players and teams and matches!

Crossfit Misconceptions: Alex at Alex Tries it Out wrote about common Crossfit misconceptions, such as Crossfit being just a workout or that it is dangerous (you can read my own thoughts on it being dangerous here).

Crossfit Certifications: Chris over at ifailedfran has a great post on the new different levels of certifications for those interested in becoming Crossfit coaches.

Offending those doing MLM: Joanna at Sports Bras and Sippy Cups wrote a blog post in response to a FB post she posted about comparing various company’s shakes to just eating real food. She wasn’t prepared for such a negative backlash at her but I love her point of view here.

Pinterest: Shameless self-plug here. I am becoming increasingly obsessed. I think it goes in waves; sometimes I think Pinterest is a complete waste of time, and sometimes I just want to pin all the things! Follow me. Please. Thanks. 😉

New Products:

Fleo Shorts: As an up and coming company, the creative minds behind Fleo Shorts sent me a pair of their new workout shorts to review. Test drive booty shorts? Sold!

When I first received my shorts, I had some major reservations. As much as I am completely comfortable in my body and totally fine with wearing booty shorts, the style made me feel like the equivalent of what a muffin top is to a belly as what this did to my thighs. Not cute. Nor comfortable.

If these shorts were to be marketed to athletic women, a size small (as I usually consider myself), was not going to work! Immediately after I addressed my concerns and, the founder, Babs, sent me out another pair in the next size up. In speaking to her team, they made a revision to label these as XS, and the former Medium as Small. I know fit is way more important than the size on the label, but if you wear a small in most other sports brands, only makes sense! Then, I was more than happy to represent!

I wore them multiple times to WOD. They are comfortable and for being booty shorts, a modest length. You can comfortably do movements without worrying about getting a bikini wax.. I did a grueling WOD  with wall balls and box jumps and sweat soaked, they showed no visible signs of sweat and stayed in place.

I have also washed and dried these more than once; the fabric wasn’t affected and the cute little logo and applique design didn’t show any signs of wear. While I am not a huge fan of the price of $47 a pair, and think this pay be a deterrent as the company continues to grow, I did find them cute and comfortable and will continue to wear them in my Crossfit WOD rotation!

You can keep up with their latest styles and designs or news updates on their website, Facebook, or Twitter, or Pinterest!

So much great info, thanks for sharing! You mentioned prepping for some upcoming CrossFit partner competitions in the beginning and so I’m curious if you’ve competed in the past and if so, would you be open to letting me pick your brain for a few? I’ve been asked to compete in an upcoming four partner team comp and I am nervous as all heck!

And, I want that teal dress you’re wearing in the photo above! Love it!

I would say life has been treating you pretty well! My birthday is coming in less than a month, so maybe I should do that too? 🙂 I love my saucony shorts for training runs, they are comfortable, and give me some wicked tan lines haha! Those shorts look cute though! Have a wonderful weekend 🙂

The shorts are totally cute! I do find it frustrating to try on athletic gear and have a variety of sizes that I wear. Plus Tri shorts are A PAIN to find in a good fit. If they fit in the legs they are too big in the waist and I get lots of lady problems as a result on the bike when the shorts are wet…. but the smaller ones do like what the smaller shorts you showed us do: cut into thigh and hips and give unflattering bulges (or sometimes feel like cutting off circulation…) Glad you got a different size that works better!

COOL idea with the Friday finds and yes, I have no shame in the booty shorts even though my kids say they can see the outline of my butt. Um good, It means I have one, lol
