Lady Lifter Spotlight: Dawn!

in Lady Lifter Spotlight

When I started blogging I never really understood Twitter. I’d get overwhelmed and confused by all of the RT and #hashtag and #FF and other crazy terms. But I read a lot about it being a great networking tool, so stuck with it. Thankfully I have because otherwise I would have not ever met this week’s spotlight: Dawn. While Dawn lives about a good 6+ hours from me, I had an opportunity to meet her last year at the Detroit Turkey Trot and she is honestly one of the most fun, determined, and awesome people you’ll ever meet! A hardworking real-estate selling mama, she still finds time to balance an awesome fitness lifestyle (and she does Crossfit!)

How did you get started in weight lifting?

After my dear non-running friend Jen (editor note: that’s me!) told me about how much she loved Crossfit I figured I would give it a try. Jen ran on the Detroit Turkey Trot with me so I felt I owed it to her to give it a try, who knew I would become addicted! I always lifted at my local YMCA but I really wasn’t achieving any results nor did I feel like I was doing it right, so when I started Crossfit this Jan 2013 I learned how to lift properly and instantly fell in love.

Favorite workout or lift?

My absolute favorite lift is the deadlift. My PR is 210lbs but I know I will smash that in the near future.

Current lifting-related goal:

My current goal is to build up strength so I can do better at push presses, shoulder presses and jerks. I struggle with getting things over my head!

Piece of advice for new lifters or those reluctant to try:

My advice – try it don’t say you can’t do it before you have even tried it! With proper instruction anyone can lift something!

My journey started in Aug of 2010 when I weighed 284lbs, I had a revision of my prior Weight loss Surgery and I began the path to Wellness. I became a vegetarian, quit dairy and sugar and started running. Flash forward to today, I am a strong 150lb woman who has no fear of the bar! I will always attempt each lift and you won’t hear me say “I can’t” , only “I will, someday.”

This story is awesome. This concept of lady lifter spotlights is even more awesome! I don’t have any amazing transformation story to tell, but I would love to be in your spotlight if you ever need someone else. I’m a pretty average girl, except that I have a sick new obsession with crossfit. 😉
