100 Push-ups? Join the “Goodbye Girly Push-ups Challenge”!

Can you do 100 push-ups? And not “girly push-ups?” I sure can’t. I remember the first time I was able to do ten real push-ups, yet since then, I have not really progressed further. I have been struggling in my Crossfit workouts anytime there are push-ups involved, and as an alternative to strict push-ups, I have resorted to doing incline push-ups during the WODs since I cannot do a large volume of “real” ones. I want to end those girly push-ups and start doing push-ups as prescribed!

When I first saw Gina post about the 100 push-ups challenge, I was intrigued, and I immediately downloaded the 100 push-ups app. However, I have been sore for days after each Crossfit workouts so knew I did not have time to fit in extra push-ups. But now that my body is getting accustomed to working out 4-5x a week again, I am ready for a new challenge and ready to work my way up to 100 push-ups! Or.. at least more than ten. 🙂

Alex of Alex Tries it Out, Jacki of Dare-2-Dream Dare-2-Do, and I have put together a challenge for all of you to end girly push-ups and strive to complete 100 push-ups!

“No More Girly Push-ups Challenge!”

Running from February 4 – March 11, with weekly check-ins and prizes, this is your opportunity to step up your game and start cranking out some REAL push-ups! Alex, Jacki, and I want you to succeed in improving your overall strength with one clear message: “No more girly push-ups!

Every week, we’ll be hosting link-ups on each of our blogs. Add your blog post where you talk about your progress, or even the URL to a tweet, Facebook post, or other media outlet, where you tell us how many push-ups you’ve made it up to. Once you’ve linked up, you will be entered to win a prize for that week! Plus, you have a great group of bloggers to reach out to for support on this fitness journey!

You can do 100 Push-Ups with us!

Want to play along? Here’s what you can do:

  1. Test yourself! See how many push-ups you can do to start, and set a plan for working your way up! I have opted to use the 100pushups iPhone app, but you can also use their site for a program, or come up with your own plan!
  2. Tweet about it! We will be using #nogirlygpushups hashtag.
  3. Talk about it! Using your Facebook, Twitter, or blog talk about the challenge and post a status update on your progress at least once per week. Follow us for our link-ups to be sure to enter you link when appropriate for prizes!
  4. Grab the badge! Copy the code or save the picture and post it proudly to let everyone know you are taking part in the challenge!

I love this!! I was wondering if I could do this and the NROLWFW program at the same time, so I checked out the page you linked to where they showed how to progress. I thought–surely I can do that! So I’m gonna try. What might be the real challenge is figuring out how to incorporate this pushup challenge into an inspirational post on my blog, but I’m up for that challenge!!

What a wonderful idea! You know I’m an advocate of girls not doing “girly push ups” – although I’m not jumping in to participate, I will totally support the cause.

I like this! I can do about 20 push-ups without having to rest… I think that doing 100 would just about kill me! Is there a time limit?

Sounds like a great challenge! I’m in! For straight pushups after pushups, I can do about 10 non girly. However, over the course of an hour long flow yoga class, I easily do 40-50…

Even though I went for a 40 min swim this morning, I’m going to do core and more upper body work this evening and will add this to my list of challenges!

Woah! These 100 pushups are meant to be done unbroken??? That is intense. I did 3,100 pushups in December, and I still can’t do more than 20 without resting. I can’t imagine what kind of training it would take to be able to do that!

Nah.. just 100 in a day. Sign up; you rock them anyway! 🙂 And even if you can’t do 100 in a day, do more a the end than you did in the beginning, and you can win!

Good luck doll! I love it when women aspire to get off their knees. Every woman should be able to do at least 10! I’ve read that this program can cause overuse issues in the shoulders, wrists, and elbows, so if you start to feel any pain be sure to back off 🙂

So I’ve been doing my own personal push up challenge and just heard about this! I’m also using the 100 push-ups application and just completed 120 non-girly push ups. My goal is to complete 50 consecutively without trouble. At this point I know that I can easily do 36 (after three weeks of the app) and can’t wait to push myself further!

I love this idea! I really need to build up my upper body strength so I can nail some more yoga poses so this sounds like a great challenge to join. 🙂 I can do about 20 or so right now so I have a lot of work to do!

OK, I’m late to the party but I love this idea. One of my new year’s resolutions was to do 20 “real” pushups in a row. When I started I could do 2 sets of 10, but they weren’t very good. I’m now at 3 sets of 12. They still aren’t great form (I need to get lower), but they are better. I’m excited to start working with this app!

Hi I am so glad I came across this program today. I started doing push ups (girly push ups) 2 days ago my arms and shoulders are aching. I joined my 11 yr old son who is being trained / forced by his dad to do push ups at this young age…. and oh yeah, i need to get back to shape too (pretending it was just an after thought lol )

What a great challenge. I participated in an online push-up challenge last summer and was amazed at what could be accomplished with consistency and some community support.
